To resolve the question of how to represent an edifice of this significance we have chosen to design a very iconic building, with a strong formal character, and clear division between functions, yet in constant relationship with its surroundings, with the same proportions of the tall buildings surrounding it, but laid on it’s side.
The Sense of a Museum of Writing
With this international competition, architects are called to design a new Museum building aiming to preserve, document and make accessible -for the widest possible number of visitors- the “World History of Writing”.
A real challenge for architecture as well, which is, itself, one of the major forms of “Language” within the Figurative Arts family. And, more so, when you consider that, the architectural “character” you’ll be giving this same building shall immediately become relevant and decisive to signify, and even enhance its role and meaning.
And this is well beyond the satisfaction of any practical and functional need. And here we are using this word “Character”, implying both the meaning of an Architectural Characteristic, and as a single alphabet sign.
